History

Department of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility started journey as Infertility unit in outpatient settings on 1st December, 2003. Associate Prof. Dr. Parveen Fatima, started activities as a chief of infertility unit with her worthy colleague Jesmine Banu, Suraiya Jahan Rolly, Itrat Aziz & Anjuman Ara Begum. After seven month on July 2003 indoor services patients admission started. Laparoscopic assessment first ever started in this university under gynecology department through our infertility unit.

Andrology lab for semen analysis was functional in 2005 and the procedure of intrauterine insemination was first performed in 2008.

Bangladesh College of Physicians has recognized this centre for training the postgraduate fellows who want to pursue higher degree in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. We have FCPS (Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility) trainees since 2013. The MS Residency program in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (REI) began in March 2017.

Infertility unit of the Dept of Obstetrics Gynecology come into being the Department of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility in July, 2018. As a founder Chairman Prof. Parveen Fatima took over the responsibility. Then she handed over the responsibility on her worthy colleague Prof. Jesmine Banu as chairman of REl department from 28th April 2019 to 27th April 2022. Direct MS Phase-B residency admission started from 2022. TVS (Transvaginal Sonography), Saline Infusion Sonography (SIS) started it his department under her supervision. At present there are 24 FCPS trainees, 30 MS Resident in the Department. Prof. Jesmine Banu was re-appointed as chairman from 28th April 2022 to till date. She is enriching the department through her dynamic action, strong, modern & timely decisions. She introduced ART services, intra-ovarian & endometrial PRP & stem cells therapy first time in BSMMU in Bangladesh.
